Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis; A Rare Iranian Case Report
Authors
Abstract:
Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is a monophasic clinical syndrome, characterized by immune-mediated demyelination of central nervous system neurons, which yield extensive damage in the brain and spinal cord.It usually affects children and young adults following infections or immunization. Here we describe a 9- year-old Fars female presented with acute onset of psychotic disorder, one week after an upper respiratory infection. Magnetic resonance images (MRI) of the brain were consistent with the diagnosis of the acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM). ADEM is one of the differential diagnoses to be considered when an acute psychotic disorder arises during childhood especially as post vaccination or infection.

A Rare Sequela of Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis
Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis is a demyelinating disease, typically occurring in children following a febrile infection or a vaccination. Primary and secondary immune responses contribute to inflammation and subsequent demyelination, but the exact pathogenesis is still unknown. Diagnosis of acute disseminated encephalomyelitis is strongly suggested by temporal relationship between an inf...

Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis is an inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system that has been associated with influenza immunization, but only a few cases related to vaccination for influenza have been reported. Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis developed in a 42-year-old woman within 3 weeks of receiving the seasonal influenza vaccine. She had 80% recovery after ...

Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis(ADEM) is an uncommon inflammatory demyelinating disease involving central nervous system white matter. A series of seven cases seen over a period of one year have been described. The patients presented with acute onset of focal neurological deficit (3 patients), alteration of sensorium(3) and ataxia(1). CT scan showed non specific hypodensity in 4 cases and ...
full textAcute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis: A Rare Complication of Dengue Infection
Dengue fever is identified as one of the most important mosquito-borne viral disease worldwide. Every year a large number of people belonging to urban populations suffer from this viral infection. Various presentations of dengue fever have been documented, however, neurological complications in dengue fever are relatively uncommon. Among these, Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM) has be...

Though rare, neurological manifestations after single or multiple wasp stings have been reported. We report a rare case of neurological manifestation of acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) caused by yellow wasp sting. Patient diagnosed on the basis of clinical presentation and MRI findings. Patient treated with intravenous Methylprednisolone 1000 mg / day for 5 days, which resulted in c...
